UPDATE - September 15, 2020
The City received information from Eastern Idaho Public Health District on September 15, 2020 concerning a masking order that was put into effect on September 14, 2020. The City has been ordered to post the order here on the website in both English and Spanish.
The order places Fremont County in EIPH District's moderate risk level. A link to the order is posted below and copies are available at the City Building. The moderate risk level information is posted in the August 12, 2020 update.
UPDATE - August 27, 2020
Eastern Idaho Public Health District has removed the mask order for Fremont County. Citizens can find more information at https://eiph.idaho.gov/.
UPDATE - August 12, 2020

UPDATE - May 22, 2020
Governor Little has started the stages of reopening Idaho following the completion of the Stay at Home Order. More information on the stages can be found at https://rebound.idaho.gov/.
The Mayor and City Council encourage everyone to follow the opening stages while still remembering to continue to practice social distancing, washing your hands often and be careful not to touch your face. They are still encouraging all of us to keep helping each other through this time.

UPDATE - March 27, 2020
Ashton citizens are encouraged to follow Governor Little’s Stay-at-Home Order. He is asking all Idahoans to stay at home. We can go out to get basic necessities such as food, medication or fuel but we are asked to practice social distancing. He advises us to go to work if it is an essential job (there is a list of essential jobs at www.coronavirus.idaho.gov). If your work is not an essential he has asked that we stay home. Governor Little does want us to go out to walk or play while remembering to keep the social distancing and sanitation guidelines.
The Mayor and City Council understand that everyone is feeling stress and worry. Please know that the City will be providing information received to you when it is received. Ashton citizens will get through this because we help each other. Call your neighbors and others that you know may need a call. Yell (nicely) at each other across the street to ask how they are doing. Take a drive and yell (kindly) at neighbors along the way. Everyone is in this together, but we can still comfort each other.
UPDATE - March 26, 2020
The Ashton City Parks department is asking parents to NOT allow their children to play on the playground equipment at the park. Right now, it is believed that COVID-19 germs will stay on metal and plastics for 72 hours. Please do not use the playground.

The Governor has issued a Stay At Home Order for the State of Idaho. The City will be receiving more information on what that means for the citizens of Ashton soon and will post an update then.
City officials encourage everyone to keep safe by following the recommendations given at coronovirus.idaho.gov or cdc.gov.
UPDATE - March 23, 2020
In order to keep key personnel healthy and available to you through the current coronavirus pandemic, the City office is now closed to the public. City employees are available to answer questions or help with service issues by calling (208)652-3987. To make payments please use the drop box, pay by credit/debit card at our website at www.cityofashton.com or pay by phone using the number above.
More information about meetings, etc. will be given as available. City officials encourage everyone to keep safe by following the recommendations given at coronovirus.idaho.gov or cdc.gov.

The Ashton City Building will be closed to the public beginning Monday, March 23rd at 8:00 am; city essential services will continue to be provided, however face to face interactions will be limited.
Citizens are strongly encouraged to utilize phone (208-652-3987) or email info@cityofashton.com first to contact City employees and officials as most issues can be taken care of through these channels. Citizens are also encouraged to utilize the City’s website, www.cityofashton.com , to answer their questions, find forms, pay your bills and more.
If a citizen must visit the City Building, please be aware they will be required to call in advance.
At this time, the regularly scheduled City Council meetings proceed as scheduled, however these meetings will be held online and broadcast on the city website where residents can watch the meeting.
The City of Ashton is coordinating with Fremont County EMS, Fremont County Emergency Management, Ashton Medical Clinic, Fremont County School District and East Idaho District 7 Health to monitor the COVID-19 situation. Please refer to the District 7 website for the latest COVID-19 information.
City officials encourage all residents to take precautions to protect themselves from novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and self-evaluate for symptoms. Additional information on ways to help prevent the spread of the disease can be found at coronavirus.idaho.gov, and cdc.gov.

UPDATE - March 19, 2020
Mayor Mattingly has issued an Emergency Declaration for the City of Ashton. Generally speaking the emergency declaration has three major benefits for the City and its citizens:
1. Increased liability protection for local government employees and contractors in responding to the crisis.
2. Ability to purchase without the need to go through competitive purchasing to address the crisis.
3. Ability to have eligible costs reimbursed at the rate of 75% federal money, 15% state and 10% city.
Mayor Mattingly would like everyone to know that this declaration is just to make sure that the City if fully prepared to help. He would also remind everyone to follow the guidelines given to us by President Trump and listed below.

The rapid spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) is now a worldwide concern. Mayor Mattingly would like to reassure the citizens of Ashton that the City is prepared to continue to provide water, sewer and garbage service.
Mayor Mattingly is encouraging citizens to follow the new fifteen (15) Day Guidelines just recommended by President Trump, as follows:
15 Days to Slow the Spread
1) Listen and follow the directions of your state and local authorities. Please refer to the Idaho Department of Health District 7 website for the latest COVID-19 health information.
2) If you feel sick, stay home. Do not go to work. Contact your medical provider.
3) If your children are sick, keep them at home. Do not send them to school. Contact your medical provider.
4) If someone in your household has tested positive for the coronavirus, keep the entire household at home. Do not go to work. Do not go to school. Contact your medical provider.
5) If you are an older person, stay home and away from other people.
6) If you are a person with a serious underlying health condition that can put you at increased risk (for example, a condition that impairs your lung or heart function or weakens your immune system), stay home and away from other people.
7) Even if you are young, or otherwise healthy, you are at risk and your activities can increase the risk for others. It is critical that you do your part to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
8) Follow the recommendations of the Fremont County School District with regard to school attendance.
9) If you work in a critical infrastructure industry, as defined by the Department of Homeland Security, such as healthcare services and pharmaceutical and food supply, you have a special responsibility to maintain your normal work schedule. You and your employers should follow CDC guidance to protect your health at work.
10) Avoid social gatherings in groups of more than 10 people.
11) Avoid eating or drinking at bars, restaurants, and food courts - use drive-thru, pickup, or delivery options.
12) Avoid discretionary travel, shopping trips, and social visits.
13) Do not visit nursing homes or retirement or long-term care facilities unless to provide critical assistance.
14) Practice good hygiene:
- Wash your hands, especially after touching any frequently used item or surface.
- Avoid touching your face.
- Sneeze or cough into a tissue, or the inside of your elbow.
- Disinfect frequently used items and surfaces as much as possible.
